Chemistry Olympiad

Cody Campbell, Stormy Smith, Dr. Lucy Duah-Williams (Chemistry instructor), Brittany Austin, Aaron Yang and Oden Alaric

The Governor’s School of Southside Virginia participated in the American Chemical Society’s Chemistry
Olympiad during March 2018 and were recently presented awards this fall for their achievements.
GSSV Alberta was awarded First year Team Award as well as First year School Award! The Team
award is given to the school with the highest combined total for five students, while the School award
is presented to the school with the highest overall average.

Cody Campbell (Park View – Alberta site) and Aaron Yang (Nottoway- Alberta site) tied for the highest
scoring individuals at their site, while Billy French (Charlotte – Keysville site) and Joey Steger
(Buckingham – Keysville site) also tied for the highest scoring individuals at their site. Claire Morris
scored highest in Mrs. Poling’s class. GSSV had three students that took top honors and each received
a gift certificate.

1st place – Cody Campbell (Park View – Alberta) & Aaron Yang (Nottoway – Alberta)
2nd place – Stormy Smith (Nottoway – Alberta)
The Team Award consisted of: Cody Campbell, Aaron Yang, Stormy Smith, Oden Alaric (Nottoway)
and Brittany Austin (Nottoway)
